Dell at CES 2023: The Future of Business Customer Computing

Although “business customer hardware” is a common and well-used designation for solutions, it fails to capture the full range of product features that vendors focus on developing and manufacturing corporate desktops, laptops, and workstations.

It also fails to account for the dozens of peripherals, from basic mice and keyboards to high-performance displays, that companies rely on to increase productivity.

Most importantly, the simple categorization misses the bigger picture behind commercial customer devices. Optimal success requires vendors to focus on building systems and peripherals for both established legacy and cutting-edge modern use cases—anticipating the best way to support business customers and workers in the years to come.

The new peripherals and updates to the Concept Nyx initiative that Dell discussed at CES 2023 deserve further consideration.

Business accessories – ancient, modern and futuristic

What do I mean by old, modern and futuristic accessories? It largely comes down to past, present and upcoming technologies and use cases.

Modern organizations balance support for the mainstream computers used by most business unit employees and provide workstations and other high-performance solutions for the designers, engineers, and other technically skilled workers who need them.

These same companies also need to support modern and emerging processes and applications that measurably increase worker productivity and business results. For example, video conferencing solutions such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Finally, vendors need to keep an eye on technologies that are still in their infancy, as far as their practical application in business continues. Virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR) and other immersive environments are showing promise. The best and brightest vendors are actively exploring how to harness these solutions to improve business productivity and results.

Dell at CES 2023

At CES 2023, Dell Technologies I entered New business extensions that fit into the modern categories you described. They include:

Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor (U3224KB)

Described as the world’s first 6K monitor with IPS Black technology, the UltraSharp 32 6K Display is designed to deliver high-contrast images with deeper blacks, resulting in improved detail, sharpness, and color accuracy. Dell innovations include 150% more pixels (at 6K resolution) than traditional 4K displays.

IPS Black technology increases the depth of dark elements (even in dark environments), resulting in vivid, accurate colors from almost any angle. These are qualities that professionals, including data scientists, engineers, and graphic designers, will appreciate.

The new solution will also appeal to business users who aim to improve video conferencing performance. Along with powerful picture enhancements, the UltraSharp 32 6K also offers a built-in dual-gain HDR 4K webcam with auto-framing, enhanced light and clarity adjustment, auto SafeShutter, echo-cancellation microphone and dual 14-watt speakers. The Dell UltraSharp 32 6K is fully compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems.

Dell Premier Collaboration Keyboard (KB900)

The world’s first Zoom-certified collaboration keyboard, the Dell Premier Collaboration Keyboard features dedicated touch controls to manage Zoom call functions, such as mute/unmute, toggle video on/off, simple screen sharing and access to chat panel.

Other features include smart backlighting with manual proximity detection and 15 programmable keys. The Dell Premier Collaboration Keyboard supports 1-minute USB-C fast charging for a full day’s battery life, or up to 20 days on a single charge.

Dell Premier Rechargeable Mouse (MS900)

Dell’s latest business mouse has an in-glass trajectory sensor that helps users stay productive while working on almost any surface. Four-way advanced scrolling is designed to offer easier navigation. Users can also switch between three devices and fine-tune tracking speed and accuracy via Dell Peripheral Manager software. The Premier rechargeable mouse delivers up to half a day of use with a one-minute USB-C quick charge and up to three months of battery life on a full charge.

The Premier Collaboration Keyboard and Premier Rechargeable Mouse both support Dell One-Click Connect, and data transmission is encrypted to help keep business information secure.

The Dell Premier Collaboration Keyboard (KB900) and Dell Premier Rechargeable Mouse (MS900) will be available beginning January 31 or available as a bundle on March 23. The Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor (U3224KB) is expected to be available sometime in the first half of 2023.

Concept Nyx: What about Dell’s plans for future-focused business and peripheral customers? Glenn Robson, Chief Technology Officer, Customer Solutions Group, Dell, Post a blog During CES 2023 describing the progress of Concept Nyx. The blog described an effort designed to explore how emerging technologies and trends, such as virtual worlds and immersive holograms, can change and enhance the way people and organizations communicate, collaborate, and communicate.

While some vendors, evangelists, and enthusiasts believe that virtual worlds are an inevitable destination for businesses and consumers, Dell takes a more pragmatic view. Robson notes, “Although immersive environments will play a role in the future of work, face-to-face meetings, instant messaging, collaboration tools, and video calling aren’t going anywhere.”

As a result, he says, the Dell team “focuses on the user experience and hones the potentially disruptive, everyday micro-moments as we’re likely to bounce between the physical, digital, and virtual worlds of the future.” Launched last year, Concept Nyx is designed to explore how traditional computing solutions can be used to interact with augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and XR environments that combine the three.

Robson described four of the group’s projects designed for use with traditional computer monitors:

  1. Spatial input to the concept of Nix It is a small handheld device similar to a traditional computer mouse that explores a futuristic desktop environment, combining keyboard and mouse experience, and 3D displays. Besides controlling the cursor and serving as a means for selecting and moving objects, twist the spatial input clockwise or counterclockwise to zoom in and out of an image or environment.
  2. The Knicks Concept Companion It is a tablet-style device that can be viewed and accessed in VR and XR environments. It can be a useful and consistent tool across all of these spaces and also ensures that users’ content stays in one place as they move between spaces and tasks.
  3. Concept Nyx Stylus It enables users to enter notes by voice or stylus, then drag and drop them into digital and virtual collaboration spaces, or even use voice activation functionality to create AI images.
  4. Nex spatial camera concept Which, when paired with AI software, can learn user expressions and behaviors to provide an avatar or more realistic representation of interactions, such as meetings in virtual spaces or video calls.

Final analysis

It’s no surprise that Dell Technologies, a leader in business consumer computing, continues to improve and improve its peripherals to measurably improve modern user experiences and business outcomes.

The new UltraSharp 32 6K Display, Premier Collaboration Keyboard and Premier Rechargeable Mouse deliver new features and improvements that benefit Dell business customers today. Concept Nyx’s efforts and investments show that Dell will continue to explore advanced innovations and business solutions in the future.
