the ring | Pink: 6 Months After the Robbery (January 1, 2023)
the performance | For much of the heist drama on Netflix, Ray Esposito aka “Leo” was an unstoppable force, a man fueled by a quest for revenge against the person he stole so much from.
But in “Pink,” one of two heist finales, Esposito gives us Ray who pulled out with Ava to enjoy a certain peace in Ohio that, yes, is also slowed down by Parkinson’s disease. Struggled through PT in a pool. He got off really bad when he had a seizure at home. “I want Ray,” Ava said to her beau as she calmed him down and made the next big hit. But the bumbling mastermind lamented in response, “Ray’s long gone.”

Here, Esposito showed us that Ray’s mind was still sharp in places, and he didn’t phone Stan, but we later learn, the feds, that he’s setting up Bob for a major downfall.
But it was two of Esposito’s final scenes — FaceTiming daughter Hannah (Tati Gabriel), and then visiting inmate Graham Davies aka “Roger Salas” (Rufus Sewell) — that capped off a POTW-worthy outing.
“I wanted to see you, to let you know I’m still here, and I’m still going,” Ray reported to Hannah, masking his symptoms. And also, the things I should have said, the choices I made…. He admitted, “I’ve done a lot of things wrong, but all of them, I hope, with them You are, I did not. When Hannah introduced her newborn daughter to “Grandpa,” the expression on Esposito’s face told us that whatever life awaited Ray next, this man had a full heart.
Then, when Ray was one-on-one with Graham, who helped make the contents of her impenetrable vault disappear? You thought there would be So Much to say. But Ray only had a few words. Mainly, about his late wife, whom Graham arguably let die many years ago: “Could you have saved her that night?” Esposito’s timbre made it clear that no payday could erase that loss.

Meanwhile, Gentry is drawn to Jenny’s heartache for her actions when she collapses in Georgia’s arms. Through all of the pain, there was also an undercurrent of relief in the actresses’ performances because now the truth was finally out, allowing mother and daughter to be together. Gentry and Howie made the lag a cathartic moment not only for their characters, but also for the viewers.
honorific | It is not surprising to anyone that Helen Mirren She is the queen of her craft (and also, you know, the Queen). Still, this week 1923 It was a beautifully acted reminder of her versatility as an actress. As Kara feared her wounded husband would die from his injuries, Mirren shows us Dutton’s motherhood at its lowest point, physically throwing herself to the ground and finishing off Kara’s raw fear, as well as her grief over the loss of her nephew Jon. But Mirren also gave us Kara at her best, patting the characters’ shoulders with a force of steel as she walked into a Livestock Society meeting and announcing that things were going to be fine. to her way from now on. Behind the scenes, Shannon sported a graceful charm that could always make George’s ex-lover laugh. But after he failed to convince her to run away with him again, his eyes told a different story. The story of an old man who made peace with someone who ran away.
