In large quantities for as long as possible
For many bodybuilders, bulking It was suspended several weeks before the competition was due to leave It’s time to cut When concentration is low body fat Sharpening and defining muscles. Hollingshead likes to build his body weight for as long as possible to keep adding on hard muscle.
“Two days ago, I had a resend day,” he says. “I’ve been lifting my weight to the heaviest I’ve been for some time. I’ve regained my weight up to 280 (lbs). It will be, probably, three or four days until I can shift the extra weight. [and] We’re back to baseline.” Hollingshead can hold his weight on the wire, knowing he can cut comfortably.
“Any of you who know me and follow me know that I have a near zero problem getting rid of body fat,” says the IFBB Pro. Hollingshead had success in competitions after just six weeks of prep. “My body loses fat really fast, but at the same time, it has a real problem with muscle retention.”
“I’m not supposed to be a big guy,” laughs the mountain man, who thinks his body is better suited to his other athletic pursuits, like skiing, ManagementAnd the swimming. “Strength isn’t a problem, I’ve always been strong, but my strength isn’t really something to do with size.”
Hollinghead says his critics, such as those who commented on YouTube, have questioned why he puts so much emphasis on eating rather than leaning in the lead-up to the contest. The Londoner says his massive food intake is essential for maintenance and add him muscle mass.
“If you get up on stage, you might get cut to the gills, but if you don’t have a certain amount of volume, you won’t be in the top three,” Hollingshead says. “The muscular system is the first and primary goal in bodybuilding. That’s why [they call it] Bodybuilding because you have to build muscle. Olympia is the best show to watch. If you look at the top five, they are the most powerful people in the lineup.”
Prioritize calories over ‘clean’ foods
“I don’t enjoy eating,” Hollingside laughs. “It makes it into the evening where I eat (or re-feed), and I honestly feel rubbish, but if I don’t, I bump into calories using my current foods, clean calories, just don’t do anything. And how much should I eat in food? Clean; the size of rice, for example, and the size of a potato, or something like that, to the point that it really strains my stomach because these foods aren’t calorie dense. So, when the goal is just to get as many calories as possible with the food that It doesn’t necessarily take up the most space, which is why you have to use foods that aren’t usually planned.”
Leg workout James Hollingshead
Hollingshead loves to start his hamstring workouts because he’s found that quads can tire him out to the point where he can’t give his hamstrings the attention they deserve if they finally work.
The bodybuilder follows the five-set rule for this exercise, performing five sets on his body hamstringsAnd the quadsThe kidnappers and calves Before throwing five sets at his counterpart biceps To get a good measure before the competition. The five sets of each body part are mixed and matched between exercises depending on how he feels.
James Hollinghead’s advice to aspiring bodybuilders
“I just hope they’ve had amazing experiences and don’t take it as seriously as I sometimes do,” Hollingshead shares. “…Remember that you are with a really elite group of great people, and when you are around them in these shows, share, talk, connect, have fun, laugh, smile; they are brothers. Sometimes in these shows, you get caught up in what is expected of you and places [that] I forgot that you are all the people who worked so hard to get there. Use the experience as fun.”
Let’s say Hollingside wins the 2022 Arnold Classic in the UK. In that case, he says he wouldn’t shy away from future competitions in preparation for shooting Mr. Olympia, instead opting to build his confidence on stage and keep busy. Hollingshead says staying outside his comfort zone is the key to his continued progress, and with a winning attitude like this, who can stand in his way?
