Lisa Guerrero has heard the phrase over and over again: “You are the luckiest woman in sports.” But that could not be further from the truth for the former “Monday Night Football” reporter.
In a new excerpt from Her memoir, “Warrior: My Way to Be Brave” Guerrero – who was frank about the suicidal thoughts she experienced after her attempted season on broadcast – detailing how the lead-up to her 2003 debut went off the rails in the aftermath of the photoshoot.
Guerrero, 58, shared an excerpt published Wednesday by Sports Illustrated. “It was a strategic decision to promote my brand and elevate my profile when I was in the ‘best sports show period’. But when photos of me in black and white underwear were greeted by the media, it reinforced their perception that I had been assigned to ‘Monday Night Football’ for all reasons. wrong.”

Guerrero claimed when Disney executives learned about the filming, “they were furious,” and claimed that it “wasn’t the picture they wanted for their family-friendly broadcast.” Guerrero also felt that “Monday Night Football” executives “didn’t really know what they wanted.” [her] To be.”
“They pretended to be shocked by the photoshoot…but after hearing this, the publicity department tried to negotiate for me to be on the cover of ‘FHM’,” she wrote.
Furthermore, Guerrero claimed that promotional photos for “Monday Night Football” were altered to feature a look from her past.

I wore a blue jacket next to Al [Michaels] and John [Madden]. However, the photos that made the cut, including on a Times Square billboard, were not from the official ABC photo shoot. Instead, without my permission, they superimposed a photo—in which I wore a gold sequined tube and cropped look—taken from a fashion show I had done years earlier,” she stated.
Guerrero spent one season on the “Monday Night Football” team before being let go. It was during that season that Guerrero was attacked by media satire He suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage.
People who know what’s going on [my boss] Freddy [Gaudelli] Guerrero said in an excerpt Posted by People last week.

“I was a shell of myself. And I felt so ashamed and embarrassed that the last thing I was going to say was, ‘Oh, and by the way, I just had a miscarriage. ‘ Most of my closest friends will learn about it by reading the book,” she continued, adding that the horrific ordeal “was the culmination.” For a season full of negativity and cruelty.”
In a statement to The Post, Gaudelli responded to the alleged evaluation of how he treated Guerrero.
“I’ve always tried to be Lisa’s biggest advocate, starting from the moment I hired her,” said Gaudelli. “Her memory of that season and mine are very different. This is the first time I have learned of her pregnancy and I am sorry she struggled through that difficult time without the full support of the team around her.
“I categorically disagree with Lisa’s account of the nature of my interactions with her. This is not how I remember our time together during her tenure at the MNF, and it makes me very sad.”

In the years since her “Monday Night Football” tryout, Guerrero’s star has continued to climb. Now on the Inside Edition, Guerrero told The Post in 2021 how much her current role has affected her.
“I wake up and pinch myself every single day,” she said at the time. “I can’t believe I’m going to chase bad guys every day for a living. I get to make a difference in people’s lives and make a difference. I’m going to become a victim advocate.”
“Warrior” was released on Tuesday.
