Cyrus has neither confirmed nor denied if these rumors are true (or if, as many fans believe, they were the inspiration for the song). Here’s what we know:

Did “Flowers” About Liam Hemsworth Cheat?
Last week, Cyrus, 30, took to the internet after sharing the infectious and danceable track, “Flowers,” and caught fans’ attention with the lyrics of a poem chronicling someone choosing themselves over a failed relationship.
Although Cyrus didn’t crack the lyrics or reveal exactly what they’re alluding to, many fans became convinced (and shared their many theories on TikTok and Twitter) that the jam was written about Hemsworth’s reported infidelities when they were married.
Since the track’s release date is Hemsworth’s birthday (January 13), many Twitter users suspected that the lyrics may have been inspired by Cyrus’ on-again, off-again relationship with the actor, which ended for good in 2019, along with their marriage.
Why do fans think Hemsworth was unfaithful to Cyrus?
One viral rumor on Twitter that emerged in the aftermath of Cyrus’ release of “Flowers” is that Hemsworth cheated on her with 14 women in the same house where the song’s music video was filmed.
The rumor apparently started from a Jan. 13 tweet by pop culture observer Bob Tings, which read, “The house where the music video for Miley Cyrus ‘Flowers’ was recorded was previously used by Liam Hemsworth to cheat on Miley with 14 more women during their marriage.” . Although the tweet garnered thousands of likes and retweets, it has yet to be verified by a legitimate news source.
Another unverified — but common — claim from a supposed insider is that Hemsworth dedicated Bruno Mars’ 2012 song “When I Was Your Man” to Cyrus at their wedding, and that its lyrics “Flowers” are a reference to the one Mars penned.
One line from A Song of Mars that seems to support this theory is “I should have bought you flowers and held your hand.” Notably in “Flowers,” Cyrus sings, “I can buy myself flowers,” and later, “I can hold my hand.”
Cyrus & Hemsworth’s relationship timeline
Cyrus and Hemsworth famously met in June 2009 on the set The last song And I started dating soon after. It said split (according to H!) first in August 2010, got back together in September of that year, broke up again in November, and reunited again in April of 2011.
In March 2012, rumors started circulating about an engagement. Hemsworth officially confirmed that he had proposed in June of that year, and in September 2013, they called off their engagement.
The roller coaster ride continued when the couple confirmed they were back together and rekindled their engagement (again!) in October of 2016, finally tying the knot in December of 2018. Sadly, the two separated in August of 2019 and Hemsworth filed for divorce.
In an emotional December 2020 interview with Howard Stern, the “Malibu” singer got vulnerable about her relationship with Hemsworth. According to her, their traumatic experience of losing their home in Malibu in a fire prompted their marriage in December 2018.
“We’ve been together ever since [I was] 16,” Cyrus explained. That trauma really affected my voice.”
“I’ve lost it all… And so in trying to put that back together, instead of going, ‘Nature has done something I couldn’t do myself;’ He forced me to let go of her, “I ran towards the fire.” Cyrus explained, adding that she “clinged on to what was left of that house, which was me and him.”
At the time, Cyrus confirmed that she didn’t have any bad blood between her and Hemsworth after the split. “I really love him and I love him so, so, so much and I always will,” she said.
