Poland leads Doncic and Slovenia. France over Italy

BERLIN (AFP) – Luka Doncic and Slovenia bounced back after trailing 23 points and looked as if they were on their way to a berth in the European Basketball Championship semi-finals.

Poland had other ideas – and in utter shock, EuroBasket will have a new champion.

Mateusz Bonica scored 26 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists, Poland beat Slovenia 90-87 to advance to the semi-finals of the European Championship for the first time since 1971.

Vlatko Kankar led Slovenia with 21 points and Goran Dragic 17 points.

Doncic was stopped to 14 points on 5 of 15 shootings, though he added 11 rebounds and seven assists. He said the Dallas Mavericks star needed an injection to get through the game and was dealing with injuries throughout the tournament.
