The world’s most immersive virtual reality experience will come to Boro Summer 2023
BoroAnnounced today, the premier destination for luxury urban living in the heart of Northern Virginia, it is welcoming to Sandbox VR, a full-body virtual reality entertainment experience, is coming to the neighborhood this summer. Sandbox VR has signed a lease for 7,508 square feet at 1656 Silver Hill Drive, Tysons, Virginia, to solidify The Boro as a regional hub for dynamic, innovative, and family-friendly experiences.
“The Meridian Group (TMG) is pleased to welcome Sandbox VR, the most popular virtual reality player in the space, to its new home in The Boro,” said Charlie Schweiger, Vice President of Asset Management, TMG. “At The Boro, we strive to create an interactive, socially engaged neighborhood that is cultivated by experiential retailers like Sandbox VR. With a concept that encourages community and team building through technological innovation, Sandbox VR offers a unique and exciting addition to Boro’s growing portfolio of eclectic restaurants, shops, and attractions.”
Sandbox VR uses patented motion tracking technology to capture the player’s entire body movements. This, combined with the high-quality custom touch system, provides players with unprecedented realism and complete immersion. The experiences are designed to make players feel like they’ve been transported to their very own action movie. Fully immersive experiences are heart-pounding and exciting – players will forget they’re in a game.
“Tysons is one of the largest areas for offices and retail in the country. It’s close to Washington, D.C. with easy access by car or subway,” says David Friedman, vice president of global real estate at Sandbox VR. “The Boro is the newest mixed-use lifestyle and entertainment hub serving the area.” With great restaurants and theaters and a complete cuisine.”
Boro’s Sandbox VR will feature 4 private virtual reality game rooms called “holodecks”, where groups of up to six players explore virtual worlds and rely on each other to succeed in games designed as social experiences. Together with friends, family, or co-workers, players are equipped with a VR headset, haptic jacket, backpack, and motion sensors on their wrists and ankles. This technology allows players to see each other and interact physically with each other while feeling like they are in the middle of an action movie, with heightened emotions that come not from simply watching a movie, but from actually becoming the stars of the action.
Sandbox VR is the latest retailer to join The Boro’s diverse portfolio of dining, shopping and attractions. In May, The Boro announced plans to offer an additional 160,000 square feet of retail space as part of its Phase Two expansion, in addition to the existing 255,000 square feet of retail space in Phase One. Future development also includes 610,000 square feet of new housing. An outdoor green space for recreation and community revitalization, as well as improving walking comfort and accessibility. The second phase of The Boro is currently under construction with a major completion in 2025.
In addition to its growing portfolio of experiential retailers and attractions, The Boro facilitates community building through its signature programs. In 2022, The Boro welcomes nearly 7,000 guests to eight events themed around seasonal moments at Boro Park, the outdoor gathering space in the center of the neighborhood. Programs throughout the year have included family and dog-friendly events, free fitness classes, chess tournaments, an Authentic Oktoberfest, winter fun activities, and more.
“There is a variety of exciting attractions that visitors of all ages can uniquely find in The Boro,” said Schweiger. “As the neighborhood expands, we look forward to offering guests more fun and value experiences and programs to enjoy over time.”
