VGI provides high-quality Internet access as well as video surveillance, security, access control, and home automation. The company is locally owned and has been serving Texas communities since 2002.
Tarana is the originator of the ngFWA class, a new broadband technology engineered through more than a decade of research and development that features two major industry breakthroughs: true interference cancellation in both licensed and unlicensed spectrum, and outstanding non-line-of-sight (NLoS) performance. As a result, service providers can finally deliver market-leading broadband speeds where fiber is impractical or impossible.
With years of traditional FWA experience, the VGI team was initially skeptical of the unprecedented claims made about the G1’s performance. However, after trying out the product in late 2021 and seeing download speeds of up to 600Mbps in a bustling urban environment, they became believers in Tarana’s passion. VGI now has hundreds of customers on active G1 networks, with many more installations coming in 2023.
VGI had more reason to be excited about the G1’s capabilities than other ISPs. While Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay are beautiful vacation destinations and a retirement dream for many Texans, the land in that area is solid granite. This makes trenching impractical, and since over-the-air fiber is not an option for aesthetic reasons in these communities, wireless is the only viable broadband option. Before the G1, this meant wildly unreliable service and inadequate internet speeds.
Now with Tarana ngFWA, wireless doesn’t have to come with compromise. Members of the Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay community, who previously settled on service plans of just 5-50Mbps, can now get up to 400Mbps on VGI’s G1 network. One end user reported that this was “the best service Horseshoe Bay has ever offered”.
ngFWA is not only a game-changer for VGI’s clients, but also for their businesses. On a single Tarana Base Node (BN) installed on a water tower overlooking Horseshoe Bay, they have over 130 active clients connected. Previous technologies were limited to 30 customers in one sector. This massive increase in capacity has reduced the number of tower climbs and made large-scale deployment significantly faster.
With the long-battled broadband problem in Horseshoe Bay resolved, the local government and broadband commission are building 3 new towers specifically to support VGI’s expansion of Tarana-backed ngFWA networks. Having accomplished their mission of providing better internet service to the community, the Horseshoe Bay Broadband Commission is now disbanded.
Scott Gibbs, CEO, VGI Technology, stated, “Tarana has allowed us to bring true high-speed internet to a place where it hasn’t been. This is unprecedented performance from wireless technology, and we’re really excited to continue to expand our G1 networks to supply even more from distant clients with high-quality connectivity.”
Mike Calabrese, Tarana’s Vice President of Worldwide Sales, added, “VGI Service Areas are a prime example of why the Tarana team has turned the script on fixed wireless. Residents of Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay no longer have to sacrifice internet quality to live there. We are very proud to be We are part of this achievement and we look forward to many more success stories with the team at VGI.”
